
How to Re-set The Body’s Nervous System
When your emotions feel broken, out-of-control; when your body is suffering the effect of stress, you can use one of these methods of repair:
Drink a glass of water
Look around the room or your outdoor environment while paying attention to anything that catches your attention then describe it or tell yourself a story about it
Name six colors you see nearby, then name the thing that is the color
Count backwards from 20 as you walk at a slow speed (notice objects in your path and touch their surfaces to get a sense of different textures on your skin)
Close your eyes and feel the temperature of the air that surrounds you
Close your eyes and pay attention to the sounds you hear
Take a walk and pay attention to the movement of your arms and legs; how your feet are make contact with the ground
Put your hands against a wall and lean in with all your weight then notice your muscles
Stand up, cross your right ankle over your left; put your arms in front and cross your left arm over your right arm; clasp your hands and draw them into your chest; hold the pose for a minute while taking a few deep breaths; then come out of the pose in a slow, thoughtful way
